In orphan care there are many parts. One part that sometimes gets left out is prevention. Preventing more orphans. A few years back there were 147 million estimated orphans. Last year I think the estimation grew to 163 million orphans. Today, I don't know what the number is, and I haven't looked on purpose cause it breaks my heart. My mind wanders and thinks that for each orphan listed, there have got to be at least two or three vulnerable children, and two or three vulnerable people right alongside that orphan.
Many think starting orphanages is the answer to the orphan crises.
Many think adoption is the answer to the orphan crisis.
Many think child sponsorship is the answer to the orphan crisis.
I am not arguing against any of these parts to the orphan care puzzle. A good puzzle has many pieces. Prevention seems to be a lost puzzle piece for many. It's not talked about as often as the other pieces. Yet, it is just as important as the next puzzle piece.
I have some dear friends who love all the puzzle pieces. During different seasons of their life they have worked on different parts of the puzzle while always keeping the whole puzzle as the focus. Recently, they have started an organization that encompasses many parts, but focuses on prevention.
Go check them out and as you do, I hope you will feel led to partner with them.
