When we started talking about adoption many years ago everyone assumed we were talking about adopting a baby. We have many a niece and nephew who were adopted as babies. Our family is so blessed to have had these babies join our family. For us, we weren't really drawn towards infant adoption. Our desire was to adopt the older child. Older in adoption is a strange term. Some adoption photolistings list special needs by a child's picture. If you pay attention on many pictures you won't see any true special needs, you will see 'over three' listed in this space I thought would be reserved for medical conditions. Over three? Really? Three doesn't seem very old to me. For some, yes, I suppose. But I guess that is the great thing about adoption. What is right for your family doesn't have to be what is right for mine. And for our family adding a baby wasn't the right thing. Our hearts were called to the older child. Over the next week or so I am going to be blogging about Jodi's 10 Things You Need to Know About Older Child Adoption. You can find this book on Amazon as well as www.fastenyoursweetbelt.com.
