BUT THESE THINGS I PLAN WON'T HAPPEN RIGHT AWAY. SLOWLY, STEADILY, SURELY, THE TIME APPROACHES WHEN THE VISION WILL BE FULFILLED. IF IT SEEMS SLOW, BE PATIENT! FOR IT WILL SURELY TAKE PLACE. IT WILL NOT BE LATE BY A SINGLE DAY. HABAKKUK 2:3

True Love

Many years ago a young man walked into a restaurant where a young lady was working. He put a piece of paper down on the counter and said to the young lady something like, 'Did I waste my money?'. The young lady looked at the paper and it was a marriage certificate application with her name and his name. Not the most romantic marriage proposal I have ever heard, but ya have to give him creativity points.

The two married. They raised three children. They helped raise 13 grandchildren. I think their great-grandchild count is currently 24ish.

The man continued to be the king of romance. On his wife's birthday he would say, "Happy Birthday. What kind of pie are you making?". On their anniversary there were no chocolates or flowers. On Christmas the man would say, "Merry Christmas".

When I was younger, my grandfathers lack of gifting things to my grandmother or planning a special day would drive me crazy. I would think to myself, when I get married, my husband isn't going to get away with that! Now that I am older I understand more about true love.

True love is Pa and Granny praying together.
True love is Pa and Granny sharing their dinner table with anyone, anytime.
True love is Pa and Granny falling asleep in each others arms. Every. Single. Night. And waking up the exact same way.
True love is Pa and Granny looking at each other like high school sweethearts at the Homecoming Dance for all these years.
True love is always being there for the other person and supporting them in their likes, hobbies and goals.
True love is enjoying each other over a piece of pie.
True love is looking past the things and loving your spouse just as beautifully and with as much excitement as the day you married.

Time often changes people and things. My grandparents constant love and dedication for each other is inspirational. The twinkle in Granny's eyes when she looks at Pa melts my heart. I can't wait for my grandchildren to see that twinkle in my eyes when I look at Keith.

4 notes to the pack:

That's why it's so easy to love my wife. She has an excellent example, studied it, and tries to live it. What pie are you making me today, Hon?

That was my comment, on Jena's account. Keith

So very sweet and what a great example they are! Love the picture on the couch. :)

By the way Keith, I'm sure Jena will make you an excellent pie! lol

That pumpkin pie sure didn't last long. Maybe we'll try apple today.
